Former Independent Councillor bows out after dedicated service

Boasting fifteen years of elected representative experience, former Independent Councillor, Paul Hogan, bowed out of the local political realm following the loss of his seat at the Westmeath County Council formal count in Moate Community Hall.

Reflecting upon his years of dedicated local authority service this week, Hogan noted his pride in serving the people of Athlone during his time within the Council Chamber setting.

“I am deeply honoured to have served the people of Athlone and its environs for fifteen years. I believe I served Athlone to the best of my ability. I was deeply humbled to be elected as one of the youngest Councillors in the country in 2004 and the youngest ever Mayor of Athlone in 2007,” Hogan remarked.

Highlighting his initial seat loss disappointment, the former Independent Councillor spoke of his return to life outside the local political realm as he concentrates on matters educational, with his studies ongoing.

“I am disappointed to have lost my seat in the recent election but I have not spent any considerable time thinking about it. I have delved straight back into my studies, the research I am undertaking and life in general,” Hogan commented.

Expressing his deep gratitude to those who assisted him during the pre-election canvass campaign, Hogan paid particular reference to his partner, Patricia and family members.

“I want to thank the people of Athlone for supporting me over the last fifteen years. I also want to thank my family and my partner Patricia and wish to pay special tribute to my fantastic election team who were beside me every step of the journey.

“I also want to thank the Executive and staff of Westmeath County Council for all their help, support and advice during my three terms as a Councillor.

“Finally, I want to wish the incoming Council my sincerest best wishes and I hope they learn as much as I did during my tenure and continue to deliver for the Athlone Municipal District,” Hogan concluded.
