'Connecting the Dots', a public exhibition celebrating the output of an inter-generational, multi-ethnic project, will be launched in the Church Gallery in Ballinasloe Library on, Thursday, May 16, at 6pm.
This project, hosted by the Galway Music Residency (GMR ), brings together primary school children with older generations through sound, music and art and will include art work, a short film documentary and post-show discussion with both younger and older participants and the artists, along with a performance from ConTempo Quartet. Following the launch, the art work will be moved to the main body of the library where it will be exhibited for a period of thirty days.
This exhibition, which features as part of Age Action’s Bealtaine Festival, is a culmination of a Galway2020 'Small Towns Big Ideas' project conceived by Ballinasloe Active Retirement Association (BARA ), GMR with its resident ensemble ConTempo Quartet, artist Finbar McHugh, Scoil Uí Cheithearnaigh, Scoil an Chroí Naofa and Ballinasloe Library.
Through a number of workshops, participants have been working together to create visual representations of their collective experience of the sound and music presented by the ConTempo Quartet. A range of ages, ethnicities and nationalities took part in the project and the group explored the themes of age, language, migration, immigration, assimilation and humanity.
At the heart of this exhibition is the importance of transcending age and circumstance to connect to, learn from, and create with those in our communities.
