Twenty five teams from Westmeath based companies are in the final stages of preparation to compete for the title of the county’s fittest company.
Once again the beautifully scenic Lilliput Adventure Centre, on the shore of Lough Ennell, will host this year’s competition, now in its sixth year, on Saturday, April 27.
Teams comprising four persons from Athlone and beyond, will line up to compete for the prestigious title. Holders for the past two years are Westmeath County Council with Trend Technology the reigning ladies champions.
During the ten week training period leading up to the event finale, teams have been training in Crossfit Cu Chulainn, Athlone, as well as with Maurice Looby Fitness in Mullingar and Killucan.
This year’s main event associates are Lilliput Adventure Centre and Midlands 103, with sponsors, the Moate based Studio 93 filming the event on the day.
As well as being a very popular team building occasion, the event has also successfully raised almost 80,000 for charity since its inauguration in 2014. Major beneficiaries of the massive team fundraising efforts include LARCC, Irish Autism Action and JIGSAW. Charities engaged with this year’s event are LARCC, Good2Talk, Rehab Care and JIGSAW, with the event aiming to raise over €10,000 this year.
Lining up at the start are teams from KCI Manufacturing, Medtronic, DPD, Reilly Mushrooms, Trend Technologies, Westmeath County Council, Annebrook House Hotel, LIDL, TEG, Westmeath Examiner, Writech, Shanette Sheds, Decotek, Bloomfield House Hotel and Chris Lynch Waste Management.
The team building aspect of the event has proven hugely beneficial to morale at the work place, with very positive feedback from Company Directors and Human Resource Managers over the last six years. The course will test competitors upper and lower body strength, endurance, speed and co-ordination. All competing teams receive custom made Westmeath’s fittest company medals on completion of the course.
Winning teams receive generous cash prizes (as well as bragging rights ), sponsored by Maurice Looby Fitness. The organisers are hoping for good weather so family, friends, colleagues and spectators in general can enjoy a great day out, even bring a picnic and make a day of it.
Westmeath’s fittest company finale starts at 11am, this Saturday, April 27.
