O’Rourke welcomes installation of new ATM on town’s west side

Fianna Fáil Councillor, Aengus O’Rourke, has lauded the decision taken by a convenience store on the west side of Athlone to install a much required ATM in their business premises.

Walsh’s on Connaught Street will provide this cash service to those in the west side vicinity who have long since been without an ATM since the closure of the Palace Bar.

“Although we are all slowly but surely moving away from a cash model, we still need to have convenient access to cash when required. Until now, if you were on the west side of Athlone and you needed cash, your nearest ATM was the AIB Bank on the east side of the town bridge.

Cllr. O’Rourke expressed his immense gratitude to Willie and Patrick Walsh for using their initiative in this regard and installing an ATM in their store.

“There has been much talk of late regarding the need for an ATM on the west side of Athlone but there has been little progress until now and I would like to thank Willie and Patrick for their co-operation in this matter in recent months. Walsh’s have invested significant money in their new Centra Supermarket on Connaught Street and have done a very fine job. The shop now has an ATM on the premises and it is already up and running.

“Walsh’s Centra Supermarket and pub serve the west side of Athlone and do a great job on all fronts. While the ATM is not an essential aspect of their business model, they are happy to provide the service for their customers and as a service for the people of Athlone’s west side,” Cllr. O’Rourke concluded.
