An Athlone woman will be to the running fore at this year’s Vhi Women’s Mini Marathon when she completes the immensely popular annual event, representing her town and county as part of the #WomenwithImpact campaign. The campaign is celebrating women throughout the country who have made an impact on lives in their local community.
Amy has been taking part in the mini marathon for numerous years and mainly runs to create awareness of causes about which she is passionate. A retired Defence Forces veteran, Amy now works as general manager of the Dún Na Sí Amenity and Heritage Park in Moate, which gives her a great opportunity to help others into a new world of ‘doing it for themselves’, in the process emphasising the importance of health and fitness.
This year Amy will be encouraging women to #dotiforthemselves, #stepup and #putonefootinfrontoftheother at the Vhi Women’s Mini Marathon. She is organising walking and running groups at the park for anyone who wishes to join her group this year, as well as providing a bus service for to Dublin on the morning of the event.
The Vhi Women’s Mini Marathon will have an increased postal entry offering this year, giving women all over the country the opportunity to receive their race number by post. Anyone entering before April 30th will be able to choose the postal entry option, subject to availability. There will also be a number of pick-up points around the country, where participants can collect their race number.

The event, now in its 37th year, will take place on Bank Holiday Sunday, June 2, at 2pm. Over 30,000 women are expected to walk, jog and run the 10K route in Dublin, starting in Fitzwilliam Square and finishing on Baggot Street.
