Need any repairs done?

Launch of Care and Repair programme for older people

Westmeath Volunteer Centre in partnership with Age Action Ireland are piloting a Care and Repair Service in Moate and the surrounding area.

This invaluable service to the most vulnerable members of our community will use a pool of local volunteers to carry out small repairs or to complete minor home tasks for older people. The service is free of charge and the only cost is that of the materials purchased for the repair or job. The service will eventually be on offer countywide.

The most common types of repair services required by older people include installing and servicing smoke alarms; installing security locks and chains; changing plugs, fuses and light bulbs; tacking down carpets; installing handrails; hanging curtains; minor gardening (mowing lawns ); and home decorating (interior painting ).

Volunteers with a reasonable level of DIY skills have been recruited. Training, insurance and Garda vetting have been provided for the volunteers.

So if you or some older person you know would like a job done, why not pick up the telephone and give us a call on Lo call: 1890 369 369.
