South Roscommon artist, Fiona Moore, is to showcase works from her art exhibition, ‘An Bhfúil cead agam dul go dhí on Leathreas?’ in the Church Gallery at Ballinasloe Library.
Inspired by the structure of the old two classroom school buildings and the human relationship with these buildings, the exhibition will be formally launched on February 26 by local Councillor, John Naughten.
The paintings were developed from studio and site based studies. Starting with a realistic image, becoming more playful with mark making and collage, the final outcome of the painting comes through after Fiona becomes totally absorbed in the physical act of painting, producing something that references the old school buildings in the landscape and embracing the human relationship with these buildings.
Fiona works in series, digging deeper into the idea of place, memory, land and people, often reworking a painting, layering and taking away searching for an emotional response.
A graduate of Galway Mayo Institute Technology, Fiona works with children and teachers in national schools, preschools and youths, creating art projects and art lesson plans for children to explore in the medium of paint.
Ahead of the formal launch of the exhibition, Fiona expressed her delight at the imminent opportunity to showcase her works.
“I am delighted to have this opportunity to showcase my artwork in the Church Gallery of Ballinasloe Library. Members of the public, students, and their teachers are very welcome to visit the exhibition. Talks to students can be arranged prior to visits,” Fiona enthused.
