Local residential area anger as illegal dumping causes waste issues

Residents of the Ashdale/Woodlands Grove estates have expressed their immense dissatisfaction with the level of illegal dumping in their locality, following a united clean up this past weekend.

Speaking with regard to the waste issue, Marie Reddin, Chairperson of the local residents association, detailed the level of frustration which existed with illegal dumping unfortunately to the fore in the local area.

“As a residents association we are very annoyed and shocked with the amount of litter that has been illegally dumped in our residential area. Old bicycles, trollies, domestic waste, mattresses, frames of beds have all just been discarded to the rear of Ashdale, as well as waste material which was illegally disposed near the tunnel in Woodland Grove.

“Unfortunately a small number of people just throw their waste over the wall which can be a huge attraction for vermin and thus highly dangerous to young children who may be playing in this waste ground. It is simply not good enough and every effort needs to be put in place to discourage people from this type of activity,” Ms. Reddin noted.

Assisting with the clean up, Town Mayor, Frankie Keena, complimented the residents association for giving of their time to carry out this work.

“It was absolutely horrendous to see the amount of rubbish that was dumped by some irresponsible people and it is completely unfair on neighbouring residents who are doing their best to keep their area in a good condition.

“I have arranged for the Council to collect this waste material and also to examine same to see if any names and addresses could be found in the relevant rubbish to try and identify any offending personnel,” the Town Mayor commented.
