Athlone IT juvenile athletics club to the fore at competitive race meet

A competitive evening of athletics at the Westmeath indoor championships, with Athlone IT juvenile athletics club to the medal table fore, was held at the AIT international arena.

With over 300 participants from the four Westmeath athletics clubs, this was the largest indoor competition to date.

The sense of excitement was evident as the four juvenile clubs, Athlone IT AC, Mullingar Harriers AC, East Westmeath AC and North Westmeath AC, arrived at the world class state-of-the-art sports facility.

Athletes from the ages of 8-18 had a choice between 60m sprint, middle distance, long jump, high jump and shot putt and the effort put in by the athletes was both uplifting and inspirational.

On the night they were eagerly supported by parents, grandparents and siblings, with the decibel level reaching fever pitch during some of the closely contested races. Event compere, Gordon Brett, expertly controlled proceedings and gratitude is expressed to volunteers from all the clubs who contributed to making the night a huge success.
