Galway City Council announce Christmas park and ride service

Galway City Council commenced its annual Park & Ride Christmas Service on Saturday the December 1 and this service will continue to operate from today, Thursday, December 13, right up to Christmas Eve.

The service will continue to operate from Ballybrit Racecourse to the city centre from 9.30am to 9.30pm daily and from 11am to 9.15 pm. on Sundays. Buses will run every 15 minutes in both directions between the racecourse and the coach station at Fairgreen (every 30 mins between 7pm and 9pm on Sundays ). The service is operated by Callinan Coaches on behalf of Galway City Council and the fee is €1 per person each way with children travelling for free, the cost includes all day parking at Ballybrit.

If you are working, shopping or just want to enjoy what Galway city has to offer at Christmas time, park and ride offers a number of advantages to customers over car travel. The high frequency of buses, competitive pricing at €1 per person each way and the faster journey time using the bus lanes, will make the journey stress-free and reliable.

The terminus at Galway Racecourse is perfectly situated for people travelling to the City along the M6, N6, N17, N18 and Monivea Roads.

Commenting on the Park & Ride service, Tommy Callinan, Managing Director of Callinan Coaches, said “we are delighted to have been chosen to operate the Park & Ride service on behalf of Galway City Council for the people of Galway this Christmas. We will offer luxury transfers for people for the great price of €1 per single trip, where the people of Galway can sit back and relax, while our drivers take all the hassle out of the driving into the City Centre. Callinan Coaches are a local company employing 180 employees, and hope people take advantage of this great service provided by the City Council”.

Mr. Uinsinn Finn, Senior Engineer, Galway City Council is delighted that Galway City Council are now in their 12th year of promoting and running this excellent initiative for Christmas shoppers and visitors to the city. During the first Saturday and Sunday of December in excess of 1,275 passengers used the service both ways which is testimony to the excellent service and price.
