Athlone Boat Club compete admirably at Carrick Head

Athlone Boat Club competed at Carrick Head in Carrick on Shannon on Saturday last. Different than the standard regattas, this event is a form of racing where rowers race against the clock and the crew or rower who completes the course in the shortest time in their age, ability and boat class category is deemed the winner. Athlone Boat Club represented in all age groups, from U14s through to Masters level, which is typically adults over the age of 27.

The dull dreary day did not dampen the spirits of the boat club’s young athletes or the coaches in attendance. From early morning until late afternoon, a cohesive boat club unit worked together to ensure the competitive nature of the athletes was noticeable on the water. After a hectic start, parents, visitors and families watched on as both young and old competitors alike crossed the finish line, doing the club immensely proud as always.

Groups which were represented throughout the day were the men and women’s junior 14s, junior 15s, junior 16s, junior 18s and Masters level.
