Athlone Boat Club competes admirably in Limerick event

The Irish Provinces indoor rowing competition held their annual event at the University of Limerick. This event attracts rowers from all over the country and host competitions for both adults and children.

The sports arena was buzzing with excitement from the onset with clubs cheering each other on and all watching the scoreboards with trepidation.

With the support of the Club Captain, Don Egan, Head Coach, Fergie Hannon and coaches, Alan Kenny, Aisling Flanagan and Aisling Dunne, the boys and girls brought their very best to each event.

The club proudly secured medals in a variety of events, U14s 500 meters Cian Scanlon, first place, U15s five minute piece Martin O’Grady, third place, U16s 500 meters and 2000 meters, Andrew Carroll, second and third place respectively.

The girls were equally successful, U13s three minute piece Aoife Hensey third Place. In the women’s category, Edel Larkin came second in both the 500 and 1,000 meters.

The travelling participants included girls representatives, Sophie Kenny, Sarah Butler, Molly Larkin, Cliodhna Murtagh, Ava Larkin, Aoife Hensey, Jade Doyle, Leah Dunne, Ava Kelly, Edel Larkin, while the boys were represented by Andrew Carroll, Donagh Claffey, Fergal Lennon, Thomas O’Brien, Ethan Friel, Martin O’Grady, Ciaran Cronin, Shane O’Boyle, Simon O’Boyle, Cian Scanlon, Harry Lough, Zach Meegan, Adam Kenny and Liam Rohan.

Adults who attended the event were Edel Larkin, Alan Kenny and Damian Larkin.
