Beezneez bring major McDwyer play to Roscommon Arts Centre

A Beezneez Theatre Company visit to Roscommon Arts Centre is always welcome but when they grace the stage with a revival of what many consider to be John McDwyer’s finest play, it is a visit not to be missed.

‘Callaghan’s Place’ is the second part of John McDwyer’s Leitrim Trilogy and following the hugely successful revival of ‘Lovely Leitrim’ in 2016, it was inevitable that calls would go out for a revival tour of this play.

‘Callaghan’s Place’ was a massive success when premiered in 2003 and was toured three times by the company including sold out, week long appearances in London and in Newcastle for the Irish Arts Festival there. It has since become a staple of amateur theatre and has been performed all over Ireland. It was a major hit at Boyle Arts Festival earlier in the year.

In ‘Callaghan’s Place’, Paul and Mary Dolan struggle to come to terms with the departure of their only child, Frances, to study at university. A mysterious Englishman arrives in their midst and his blossoming friendship with the daughter creates tension and ultimately leads to tragedy as neighbours Pat Kelly and Annie Jackson fail to stem the tide of Paul’s anger and suspicion. For all the seriousness of the underlying themes, Callaghan’s Place is peppered with scenes of outrageous humour and laugh out loud situations. An all-star Beezneez cast which includes Michael Roper, Peter Davey and Margaret Kilcoyne ensure an evening of unmissable theatre.

‘Callaghan’s Place’ comes to Roscommon Arts Centre for one night only on Tuesday, November 6th at 8pm. Tickets available from Box Office on 090 662 5824 and from www.roscommonartscentre.ie
