Castledaly native awarded third level excellence scholarship

Castledaly native and former Moate Community School student Alan Henson was one of 72 students from around the country to be presented with an excellence scholarship at a special ceremony held in NUIG.

Accompanied at the award presentation by his parents John and Margaret, brother Paul, girlfriend Dervla and his school guidance counsellor, Josephine Meehan, the accolade recognises students who are the top 20 percent of high achievers entering third level. Alan is now studying Financial Maths and Economics and was one of six students awarded in this category.

The awards have grown since 2017 when there were only 56 recipients. This year’s total of 72 excellence scholarships attests to the high standards of achievement among students entering first year at NUIG this year.

Awards were presented by the university’s Registrar and Deputy President Professor Pól Ó Dochartaigh who spoke to guests through the medium of Irish and English.
