Deputy Kevin ‘Boxer’ Moran welcomes youth initiative

Deputy Kevin ‘Boxer’ Moran TD, has welcomed the launch of the Youth Employment Support Scheme (YESS ), a new work experience scheme targeted exclusively at young jobseekers who are either long term unemployed or face significant barriers to employment.

The scheme which was announced by the Minister for Employment Affairs and Social Protection, Regina Doherty TD, boasts the aim of providing work placements of three months duration with participants engaging in 24 hours work experience per week, over a three to four day period. Participation on the scheme is wholly voluntary and participants will receive an allowance of €229.20 per week for the duration of their placement.

Welcoming the initiative, Deputy Moran acknowledged that the initiative afforded young people with the opportunity to expand their skills.

“I welcome this excellent initiative, about which I have been in contact with Minister Doherty for some time. Youth unemployment rates are still very high and this scheme is about giving our young people the opportunity to expand their skills through vital work experience and giving them a greater chance of gaining employment. Our youth must be given every opportunity to find meaningful and fulfilling work.

I look forward to Minister Doherty’s Youth Employment Support Scheme being implemented and I would encourage all those who are eligible to get on board by applying at the first opportunity,” the Deputy commented.
