A multi-million euro building project for Moate Community School is moving to the next stage, following confirmation from the Department of Education this week that approval has been granted under the Department’s six year Capital Programme.
Following on from the Department’s technical site visit, the school has been advised that the project is progressing to the architectural planning stage and will be delivered by an external agency to the department.
The building project is the final phase of the original new school that was completed in 2002.
The news was warmly welcomed and announced by Minister Kevin 'Boxer' Moran TD, who commended the work of local Independent Councillor, Michael O'Brien in this regard.
"This is great news for the area. Cllr. Michael O’Brien approached me about this outstanding issue for the school on a regular basis and I was more than happy to help in getting the matter resolved.
“Michael and I met with the school and I was very happy to do whatever I could to assist in completion of the final phase,” Minister Moran commented.
Echoing similar sentiments, Cllr. O'Brien noted that these works will enable completion of the school works.
"This is basically the completion of Moate Community School and finally brings to an end works on the grounds.
As a former pupil, I am thoroughly delighted with this announcement having worked with Minister Moran and the school committee in order to bring matters to a successful conclusion," Cllr. O'Brien enthused.
