Housing grant funding allocated to older persons

Minister of State, Kevin 'Boxer' Moran TD, has welcomed funding of €400k for housing grants for older persons.

Minister Moran said he was delighted to note that funding of €200k has been allocated to Athlone and a similar amount to Mullingar.

"This is very good news for older people who require assistance in improving their homes to make them warmer and safer. The Housing Aid for Older People Grants scheme is available to assist older people (over 66 years of age ) living in poor housing conditions to have essential repairs or improvements carried out to their home," Deputy Moran commented.

With a maximum grant of €10,500 permitted, applicants are assessed on the basis of their household means."The maximum grant of €10,500, to cover up to 100 percent of the cost of works, may be available to applicants with gross household incomes of up to €30,000 euro per annum, tapering to 30 percent for applicants with gross household incomes of between €54,001 to €65,000 per annum. "The same means test will apply in every local authority area with the types of works allowable under the scheme varying and may include structural repairs or improvements, re-wiring, drylining, repairs to and replacement of windows and doors provision of central heating water and sanitary services contract cleaning painting and radon remediation works.

To make the relevant application, persons must contact the housing section of their local authority.
