The art of mixology perfected at The Prince

It is hard to believe but The Prince Bar, Athlone is due to celebrate the first birthday of the Cocktail Bar in the coming weeks.

Twenty years after a young Tom Cruise appeared on our screens as the suave Brian Flanagan in the film Cocktail, The Prince Bar launched its very first cocktail menu. In the 12 months since, the bar has become a Mecca for connoisseurs and lovers of great cocktails.

In recent months they have launched their newest cocktail menu which has been warmly received by its customers.

The art of cocktail making, known as mixology, is something which the Prince Bar takes very seriously, and those who make it as mixologists are trained to the highest standards and regularly take part in national and international competitions, constantly honing their skills.

The result? The Prince Bar has become synonymous as the premier destination for cocktails in the Midlands and one of only a handful of bars which create their own cocktails from scratch.

Not content with simply being the premier establishment, Mary Clarke – food and beverage manager of The Prince Bar - and her team are constantly innovating and testing new premium spirits from around the globe. Under the guidance of Padraig Power, the cocktail bar at The Prince is constantly expanding its repertoire of cocktails as new ingredients and spirits become available.

So what lies ahead for the Cocktail Bar at The Prince?

The Prince Bar has recently launched a new and exciting service for groups; cocktail training.

“It seemed a natural progression for us, seeing that we have the best talent in terms of mixology, to offer people the opportunity to learn a few tricks from the professionals. What we didn’t really anticipate is the level of interest we have got. Groups booking for hen parties, 21st birthdays, staff nights out, and even surprise 60th birthdays! It’s a fun night out for a group and something you’ll definitely remember,” said Eric Hennelly Flanagan PR and marketing manager at The Prince Bar.

One of the most popular cocktails for the Prince Bar this year has been its Cosmo, made popular by Carrie and co in Sex and the City. Below is an easy version which can be made with few ingredients.
