Two local community groups win in National Lottery Good Causes Awards

The Gateway Youth Project (Foroige ) and the Midland's Amenity Park Association Ltd. were notable winners in their respective categories following the announcement of the successful candidates in the county Westmeath National Lottery Good Causes awards.

'Achieving the ultimate spot in the 'Health and Wellbeing' category, Midlands Amenity Park Association Ltd. Midland’s Amenity Park at Dún na Sí Amenity and Heritage Park is a unique conservational, educational and amenity facility in the bustling town of Moate. The park opened to the public in 2013 and is run by a committee of 22 volunteers and the project provides a service to every sector of the community, including economically and socially deprived members.

Gateway Youth Project (Foroige ) attained the top award in the 'Youth' category. This project is joint operated and managed by Foróige National Youth Development Organisation and Athlone Community Taskforce. It provides a range of youth work services for young people aged 10-18 years in Athlone and surrounding areas. These services include intensive individual support, specialised group work, educational support, and general youth work services, including supports and training to voluntary clubs and groups

The awards honour the inspiring work of thousands of projects, clubs and individuals all over Ireland with the help of Good Causes funding. Nearly 30 cent of every euro spent on National Lottery games goes back to Good Causes, which has a big impact on communities across the country.

These winners will represent Westmeath in the Midlands Regional finals in September, competing for a place in the National Finals in Dublin on Saturday, November 3.

Each category winner will received €10,000 and the overall 'Good Cause of the Year' will receive an additional €25,000. The full list of County Winners can be found at www.lottery.ie/goodcausesawards

Nearly 30 cent in every €1 spent on National Lottery games – or over €619,000 per day – goes back to Good Causes all over the country in the areas of Sports, Arts, Culture, Heritage, Community, Health, Youth and the Irish Language. Last year alone more than €226 million was raised by players of National Lottery games for such Good Causes
