Mount Temple native, Eva Dunning, was crowned Miss Midlands 2018 at the glitz and glamour laden Grand Final held in Karma on Friday night.
Nine contestants took to the runway, modelling three different looks before, taking to the stage for an interview with host for the occasion, Kieran O Malley from the Galway Player. All contestants gave a confident interview on the night with all of the judges commending them on their preparation and decision to become involved in the Miss Midlands process.
Along with eventual winner Eva Dunning, those who contested for the Miss Midlands crown on the night were Tanya Scanlon, Noelle O Neill, Margaret Bolton, Katie Woods, Noor Judge, Natasha Neville, Donna Feehan and Sonia Martin.
All of the contestants attended an interview with the judging panel earlier in the evening. Judges included Mady Maher (Catwalk Modelling Agency ), Caroline Downey (Carried Away PR/ TV3 Stylist ) and local blogger, The Wicked Blonde.
A recent Dublin City University law graduate, Eva, who had entered the 2017 Miss Midlands contest, commented that she had gained such a positive experience fundraising, confidence building and meeting new friends, and jumped at the opportunity to re-enter the ‘Miss Midlands’ process once again this year.
She will now automatically receive a contract with Catwalk Modelling Agency and sponsorship from The Debs Room Athlone and Medussa Hair Studio Athlone to assist her with preparations in the run up to Miss Ireland.
Miss Ireland is one of the World’s longest running beauty pageants established in 1947. It has been the launch pad for many well known successful, empowering women in Ireland. The winner of Miss Ireland represents her country at the prestigious Miss World.
The competition has not only been successful for the overall winners of the coveted crown, but also for finalists who have taking part who credit Miss Ireland in helping building their confidence, self esteem, interview & media skills, all elements which they have gone on to use in their chosen professional careers.
Miss Ireland uses her reign to raise awareness and fundraise for charitable causes under the beauty with a purpose title which is at the heart of the Miss World organisation. Since its inception, Miss Ireland has raised hundreds of thousands of funds and awareness for various charities with a strong focus on Irish Children’s charities.
The competition is not just based on beauty. There are many other tasks which the winner must compete in to win this crown such as her beauty with a purpose work, interview, fashion, sports, talent and social media skills.
The team at Karma Athlone wish Eva all the best with Miss Ireland and will offer constant support through her year as ‘Miss Midlands’.
