Minister of State and Longford/Westmeath TD, Kevin ‘Boxer’ Moran took time out of his busy schedule this week to view ongoing works aimed to alleviate flooding at the bridge between Ballymore and Glencara at Clonboy, the scene of some serious flooding in recent years.
Funding for the project has come from the Office of Public Works in conjunction with Westmeath County Council and involves the creation of a new culvert at Rath Upper, Ballymore (L5342 ) near Glencarra, at Ballinacor, Ballymoe.
An ongoing flood concern, Minister Moran acknowledged, prior to funding been granted for the project, the urgent need to have alleviation procedures in place, an issue raised on a regular basis by Cllr. Tom Farrell.
“Cllr. Tom Farrell has been raising the issue with me to see if something could be done and I am delighted to say that funding has been secured to allow works progress which will come as a major relief to the local community,” said Minister Moran.
“Flood related events that cause disruption to local communities need to be addressed as a matter of urgency and the work that will be carried out in Ballymoe should resolve all issues there”, concluded the Minister.
