Athlone District crowned U12 champions

The Athlone District Schoolboy/girl League U12 representative team were crowned inaugural winners of the SFAI Subway U12 Inter League Plate competition last weekend.

The Athlone team secured the title with a 2-0 win over the West Waterford/East Cork Schoolboy League.

A goal in the first minute of the final by Brandon Wykes and a screamer some 10 minutes from time by Thomas Farrell was enough to see the Athlone boys crowned national champions.

The ADSL U12s had to play eight games during the course of the season to win this competition, and were unbeaten in those eight games, recording seven clean sheets in the process.

The winning squad was drawn from seven different ADSL clubs and all these players are members of the ADSL Emerging Talent League Centre. The squad is coached by Clive O’Neill and Richie O’Neill.

This is a famous and historic win for the ADSL and is a first national Inter League SFAI win for one of the smallest schoolboy leagues in the country.
