To celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Irish National Teacher’s Organisation, the commemoration book Kindling the Flame by Niamh Puirséil was presented to Mayor of Athlone, Aengus O’Rourke, by the oranisation’s Athlone/Moate branch at its May meeting.
This is one of many events being held nationwide to mark the 150th anniversary of the establishment of the Irish National Teacher’s Organisation.
The Athlone/Moate branch of the organisation has more than 330 members from schools in the surrounding areas.
Members of the branch thanked Mayor O’Rourke for attending the 150 years event to receive the books, which will be donated to Athlone and Moate libraries.
