Successful trip for Young Lions

Young Lions Soccer School, Moate, undertook its most successful trip yet when it visited Holland recently, according to their director of coaching, Leigh Feery.

Mr Feery said the Young Lions had three Ajax coaches at their disposal for the duration of the trip, while enjoying world class facilities, including a 20 minute kick about at the newly renamed Johan Cruyff Arena.

The former Netherland’s international, Cruyff won eight Dutch league titles and three European Cups during two spells with Ajax as a player, and later went on to manage the club for three seasons between 1985 and 1988. Cruyff passed away in March, 2016, at the age of 68, following a long battle with lung cancer.

The Young Lions also got to meet world renowned freestyle football champion, Maarten Van Luit, who spent two hours teaching them the art he has honed to perfection.

Each of the 25 boys were accompanied by their father, and both juniors and seniors made many new friends on the trip.

The new Young Lions soccer coaching season commences on June 9 in Moate and is completely booked out. A waiting list is operating and is guaranteed to function on a first come first serve basis.
