Great summer events at Roscommon Arts Centre

The summer season of events at Roscommon Arts Centre has just been announced and it is going to be another busy season at the popular entertainment venue.

May is the month of the Bealtaine Festival, a national event which celebrates the arts and creativity for older people. To coincide with the Bealtaine Festival, the arts centre are running free acting workshops for those aged 50 and older with their theatre artist in resident Julie Sharkey. The classes will take place on Thursday afternoons in May from 2pm to 4pm.

Poet, playwright and novelist, Michael Harding will be hosting a series of writing workshops throughout the month of May at the centre entitled ‘The Art of Memoir’. The Tuesday morning sessions are fully booked, but due to demand a second series has been announced for Tuesday afternoons from 3pm to 5pm. Spaces are limited so early booking is advised.

There are a number of family friendly events taking place in the centre this summer, including ‘Woolly’s Quest’, which coincides with this year’s Roscommon Lamb Festival on Saturday, May 5.

Brought to the arts centre by Galway based children’s theatre company, Branar, this is the epic story of Woolly, a brave sheep who decided to find out what happened to her wool! There are two performances on the day, at 12pm and 2pm, and the show is suitable for ages five and older.

Following their sell out show on Thursday, May 10, Bagatelle have announced a second night at the arts centre on Wednesday, May 9. Tickets are selling fast for the new date, so do not delay.

Other season highlights include: ‘Autumn Royal’ by Kevin Barry on June 1 and 2; Ibsen’s A Doll’s House on May 29; the Bookworms Children’s Festival from June 6 to 9; and ‘The Legend of Luke Kelly’ on June 21.
