Toastmasters’ bumper public speaking contest

Athlone Toastmasters are looking forward to a bumper public speaking contest next Tuesday March 24 at 8pm in the Shamrock Lodge Hotel.  Six contestants shall battle it out to be crowned Club Public Speaking Champion 2009 and to have the honour of representing the club at the area final on Sunday April 5.

The international speech contest is the highlight of the club year and an important part of the club educational programme. It provides an opportunity for proficient speakers to gain contest experience and allow Toastmasters and guests to learn by observing proficient speakers.  It is also a chance for the club to recognise the best in public speaking and by so doing encourage all the members to achieve the highest standards in public speaking

The club is a “learn-by-doing” club where members develop public speaking and communication skills through a communication program manual, practice, and encouragement from other club members.  The basic manual is made up of a series of 10 speaking assignments.

If you would like to improve your speaking skills in 2009, guests and new members are always welcome at the bimonthly meetings of Athlone Toastmasters. Meetings are held on the second and fourth Tuesday of the month at 8pm in the Shamrock Lodge Hotel.

Guests are especially welcome to the Club Speech Contest at 8pm on March 24 in the Shamrock Lodge Hotel.
