McFadden to host ‘Women Making a Difference’ meeting

Athlone based Senator Gabrielle McFadden will this week host a meeting entitled ‘Women Making a Difference’ in the Sheraton Hotel, Athlone.

The meeting is part of a programme of activities being held around the country by Fine Gael to celebrate the 100th anniversary of women’s suffrage in Ireland, and will take place on Thursday, April 19, at 7.45pm.

The meeting, which is open to all members of the public, will touch on some of the progress made by women in Ireland in recent decades, as well as looking forward to some of the issues and challenges to come.

Guest speakers on the night will include Minister for Social Protection, Regina Doherty, Joan Mulvihill, and Sarita Johnston from Enterprise Ireland.

Senator McFadden said it is essential that that the 100 year anniversary of women getting the right to vote is marked.

“Women are making a huge contribution to Irish society and making a difference in so many spheres. And looking to the future there are challenges, but there are so many more opportunities. I am really looking forward to this event and would encourage anyone from the Midlands, be they male or female, with an interest in current affairs to attend,” said Senator McFadden.
