Invitational Tournament caps season of triumphs and community spirit for Maree Oranmore FC

Thu, May 02, 2024

Pictured at the Maree Oranmore FC Invitational Soccer Tournament in Oranmore on Sunday were Galway United Senior Ladies Rola Olusola, Aoibheann Costello and Abbie Callanan, with Maree Oranmore’s Michaela Kearney and Réiltín O’Reilly.

Following on from their Invitational Tournament at the weekend and as the 2024 season unwinds, Maree Oranmore Football Club has accomplished some remarkable achievements, on and off the pitch. From securing league titles to nurturing the youngest talents in the academy, and driving the club’s most ambitious fundraiser to date, the “Win a Home in Oranmore” competition, Maree Oranmore FC has embodied the essence of teamwork, passion, and inclusivity.

The club, which was dealt a sad blow at the start of the year with the passing of stalwart Martin Horgan, has secured five league titles and one cup this season, showcasing its consistency in local competitions. The U21 Premier, U17 Div 2, U16 Div 2, U13 Div 5 men and boys, and the U14 Girls Championship league titles have been secured, with each team finishing top of their respective tables with impressive records. The U16 Girls also claimed the Premier Cup trophy in a thrilling match against Athenry, decided by penalties last Thursday night in Eamonn Deacy Park. The club’s prowess extends to both provincial and local levels, with four teams qualifying for Connacht finals and five for Galway cup finals.

The club’s youngest stars, the academy kids from U7 to U9, also had a fantastic season which came to an end last Sunday at the Invitational Finals Day. Maree Oranmore FC hosted the event, which saw 116 teams from all over the county compete in a fun and friendly atmosphere. Over 1,000 medals were handed out on the day by local VIPs, including Galway United men’s and women’s players and local politicians. The club thanks all the participants, organisers, and sponsors for making the day a huge success, and looks forward to welcoming the academy kid’s back next season.
