Local kickboxer Brendan Kenny (18) from Monivea secured an historic silver medal at the Junior World Kickboxing Championships in Italy.

There were some fantastic performances from Galway athletes at the Connacht Schools championships in Athlone, most notably in the senior boys’ 5000m where Jamie Fallon (Calasanctius Oranmore) scorched around the track in an incredible 15.04, a top-class time and a breakthrough performance for the young athlete, who also runs with Craughwell AC.
