Adjunct Professor and honorary graduate of NUI Galway, the late Michel Déon was remembered this week at the university as the Chair of French will be named in his honour. The event took place as part of a day of tribute to the French author jointly organised by NUI Galway, Cúirt International Festival of Literature and the French Embassy, in the presence of French Ambassador to Ireland, M. Jean-Pierre Thébault, and of one of Michel Déon’s fellow members of the Académie Française, M. Frédéric Vitoux.

MARILYN MONROE and Molly Bloom will be celebrated in two new, one-woman, shows, at the Galway Theatre Festival. Galway actor Tara Breathnach’s Molly is a staging of Molly Bloom’s famous soliloquy from Ulysses, while Marilyn Monroe Airlines: Always Late and Unreliable! features writer/performer Leonor Bethencourt in the comic persona of Marilyn-worshipping air hostess Zocorro.

Something About Home, is an evening with Mike McCormack, Dr Liam Harte and Mayo writers, taking place at the Linenhall Arts Centre in Castlebar on Monday 10 April at 8pm, which ties in with the recent publication of an anthology of the same name.

We would not like everything in Ireland to be in English only’.
