Ballina Town and Manulla sit top of division one of the Masters League after an entertaining night in Solar 21 Park on Wednesday last. The night started with a rip roaring contest between local rivals Westport United and Fahy Rovers. United were ahead 1-0 at the break but found themselves 3-2 down midway through the second period. Late goals secured a 4-3 victory. David Cameron and Vinnie O’Malley each hit a double to give Westport their first win of the season. Tom Gill, Colin Napier and Guillame Vaidi hit the goals for Rovers.

Celtic go back to the top in Masters League

Castlebar Celtic returned to top spot in the Masters League division one on Wednesday night last following a dominant win over Fahy Rovers with Manulla and Ballina also impressing in victory. Manulla opened the evening still smarting from their round three defeat to Srtaide & Foxford United and took their anger out on Ballyhaunis Town. Five goals for Dessie Campbell, a hat-trick from Dermot McNicholas, including a brilliantly executed chip from the edge of the penalty area, and a further goal from Roger Clarke saw the blues run out 9-1 winners. John Guilfoyle grabbed Ballyhaunis only goal of the night.

Westport held in ten goal thriller

Manulla closed the gap at the top of the division one table in the Masters league last Wednesday with a big win over Swinford, taking advantage of Westport United’s slip up against Ballyvary Blue Bombers earlier in the night. Kiltimagh Knock United also took advantage to close the gap with a win over Ballina Town, while Straide and Foxford eased their own relegation worries with a win over Snugboro.
