JCI’s Techgate event last week at Monroes included some of leading start-ups from the West of Ireland as well as some of the better established technology companies showcasing their products and brands at the Expo.. Featuring eight speakers with outstanding talks covering a wide range of topics with representatives from Google, boards.ie, OnePageCRM and Ex Ordo to name a few, Techgate also supported local charity COPE and the Galway Autism Partnership.

Jobs boost as Avaya announces seventy five new posts

Galway received a significant employment boost on Tuesday when Avaya announced it is creating 75 new positions at their offices in Mervue Business Park. The jobs are part of the company’s new Customer Experience Centre, which opened with a special ribbon cutting ceremony by Michael Bayer, president of Avaya’s field operations in Europe, Middle East and Africa, and Barry O’Leary, CEO of the Industrial Development Authority Ireland.

Technology firms still going strong in Galway

The announcement last week that Galway is to gain 90 new IT related jobs in two separate announcements by Hewlett Packard and Buy.com is a timely reminder that, despite all the doom and gloom, Galway and the western region still has a strong and thriving technology industry.
