Mayo psoriasis sufferers urged to establish support group

The Psoriasis Association of Ireland has urged psoriasis sufferers throughout Mayo to set up a local support group. National committee member Ronan Farrelly said many people who have the skin disease suffer in silence and prefer not to discuss their condition. In many cases people avoid social situations like going to the shops, attending parties, participating in sporting or community events, he said.

Psoriasis information day in Staunton’s Pharmacy

A free psoriasis information day will take place in Staunton’s Pharmacy, Castlebar, on Friday May 22 from 10.30am to 1.30pm. Dermatology nurse Caroline Kennedy will discuss patients’ individual cases and treatments. Psoriasis is a chronic, incurable, skin disease, characterised by dry red patches and thick silvery scales on the skin that are extremely itchy, leading to scratching and bleeding.
