Kenny warns of problems with digital TV coverage
Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny has received detailed information from RTÉ networks in respect of the progress being made with digital terrestrial television in County Mayo. SAORVIEW is the name for Ireland's new free-to-air digital TV service and most of the county is already covered by the SAORVIEW service. Despite the majority of the county being already covered by SAORVIEW, many remaining parts will not go live until spring 2011 and some further areas will not even pick up the new service through existing aerials.
Analogue television to be switched off by 2012
Communications Minister Eamon Ryan has announced plans for the transition from analogue to digital television in Ireland, with analogue television to be switched off by the end of 2012. RTÉ will build a €70 million replacement digital service, which is expected to provide full national coverage and will also provide significant coverage throughout Northern Ireland.
Wellstone clinic announce closure as Fresenius steps in
Some 20 job losses are on the cards for staff manning the Wellstone Clinic in Kilkenny following news that a five year contract which will ensure the provision of satellite renal dialysis for patients from the Carlow-Kilkenny has been awarded to German company Fresenius.
