An Taisce’s 'special status' in planning regulations must end
The designation of An Taisce as a prescribed body under planning regulations has come under criticisms from members of Mayo County Council. This follows An Taisce’s decision to appeal to An Bord Pleanála the planning permission for Mayo Power to construct a 50 Mw power station at Killala. As a prescribed body, An Taisce is notified about almost all planning applications in the country, and can ultimately appeal those applications to An Bord Pleanála.
Belmullet energy company tipped for global success after €2.5 million ESB funding award
A Mayo lighting company has received a massive investment of €2.5 million from the ESB to help develop the company’s international profile and expand its customer base. SELC, which stands for superior electronic lighting controllers, is chaired and managed by award-winning entrepreneur Sean Noone who operates the business from a state-of-the-art purpose built high tech facility in the Udaras na Gaeltachta business park in Belmullet, where it currently employs 45 people.
