One of those who was seduced by the wavelengths as a youngster has hung up his microphone this week. RTÉ RnaG broadcaster, musician and songwriter Seán Ó hÉanaigh retired from his work with the station yesterday (Wednesday) after 28 years. Seán was appointed Managing Editor of Programmes in 2000, and is particularly associated with music and music programming at the national Gaeltacht station.

Minister for Rural and Community Development, Michael Ring, confirmed last Friday that the Hughes family has now successfully completed the acquisition of Westport House and estate from the Browne family. In February 2016, the family placed the historic house and estate on the market, having owned it for generations. The estate has been overseen in recent years by the personal representatives of the late Jeremy Browne Lord Altamont, namely Con Casey of LHM Casey McGrath accountants and Dermot Furey of Gartlan Furey solicitors.

About a zillion decades ago, back in the days before finding yourself was actually called finding yourself, I found myself in Westport attending a Finding Yourself Course run by Anco. A pall was cast over the town of Westport and around the county this week with the news that the managing editor of The Mayo News Neill O'Neill passed away suddenly at the age of 36. Mr O'Neill took ill at his home at Rosbeg, The Quay, Westport early on Tuesday morning.

Bus Éireann and the Royal Irish Academy (RIA) have launched a collaborative campaign to commemorate leading female participants in the 1916 Rising. The campaign features a specially wrapped double decker commuter bus, and posters illustrating the stories of six women who featured prominently in the Easter Rising, on 650 buses nationwide. Bus Éireann travel centres across the country, as well as bus bays, some bus shelters, and Busaras in Dublin, will also feature billboards and a short digital video for the campaign. The figures will be profiled on board buses in the regions where they are most associated, with Mayo native Kathleen Lynn the figurehead for the west of Ireland
