Galway can advance its already strong sport tourism product and grab a greater slice of the €450bn global industry in the sector, the organisers of a major think-tank of international experts in the field in May have stated.

Some 15 sporting clubs and organisations across the county are to benefit from over €450,000 of funding under the Government’s Sports Capital Programme.

Preparations are well under way for the Westport Festival of Sport fun day, which is to be held in conjunction with the Gaelforce adventure race weekend Sunday August 23 on the South Mall, Westport. The event, co-ordinated by the Mayo Sports Partnership, promises to be full of fun activities such as the family sports challenge (incorporating 12 different sports), water sports, demonstrations, bouncy castle/fun inflatables, walking challenges, street orienteering, inclusive games, and the fourth annual Mayo Team Challenge.

With a week to go preparations are in full swing for the Westport Festival of Sport fun day, which is to be held in conjunction with the Gaelforce adventure race weekend on Sunday August 23 from 1pm to 5pm, centred around the Mall area in Westport.
