Fine Gael Election Candidate, Minister Hildegarde Naughton, has welcomed the completion of the masterplan for the University Hospital Galway (UHG) complex on Newcastle Road. Minister Naughton has long advocated for the relocation of elective care away from this site to Merlin Park Hospital and this plan is a vindication of that view.

A new 1,150 bed acute hospital is to be developed on the 150-acre Merlin Park site. The facility, which will replace the current University Hospital, will cost in the region of €2 to €3 billion and is expected to be completed by 2031.
