Galway Simon Community appeals for help to prevent the trauma of homelessness this Christmas

No one should be without a home. Galway Simon Community is deeply concerned about the number of people experiencing homelessness in the West this winter. The charity has issued an urgent appeal ahead of Christmas, asking people to support them to help prevent people across Galway, Mayo and Roscommon from experiencing the trauma of homelessness.

Galway Conference on Youth Homelessness

As part of Simon Week 2024, Galway Simon Community is to host a conference on Youth Homelessness in the ILAS Centre in the University of Galway this Friday, September 27 from 10am to 1pm.

Worrying increase in homelessness among young adults

Homeless charity Galway Simon Community has raised concerns as the latest figures released by the Department of Housing, Planning and Local Government reveal that the number of young adults (18 – 24) living in Emergency Accommodation is growing faster than any other category, against a backdrop of rising rents and a deepening housing crisis. There were 481 people living in Emergency Accommodation across Galway, Mayo and Roscommon in April, an increase of 19% on the previous year. The increase in the number of young adults living in Emergency Accommodation in the same period was 44%.
