A British MP has penned a song to remember the Mayo Famine victims, from Kiltimagh and Ballina in particular, who fled to the small town of Otley in Yorkshire in search of refuge during the Great Hunger in the mid 1800s.
New fights from Knock to Leeds-Bradford from March
Flybe, Europe’s largest regional airline, has this week announced a new service flying three times a week between Ireland West Airport Knock and Leeds Bradford Airport in the UK. The new route will commence on March 25 and will run on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays. This will be the third addition to Flybe’s route network at the airport following the introduction of new services to Edinburgh and Manchester last year.

IWAK ‘Leeds’ the way with launch of new Ryanair flight
Ryanair, Europe’s largest low fares airline has announced a three-times-a-week service from Ireland West Knock to Leeds Bradford Airport. The new route will commence on March 30 2010 and it will complement Ryanair’s existing network of routes at Ireland West Knock which include daily scheduled services to London Luton, London Stansted, and Liverpool John Lennon airports, in addition to the four-times-a-week services to East Midlands and Bristol International and the twice weekly service to Alicante which commenced in June. This latest expansion by Ryanair at Ireland West Knock will bring an additional 59,000 seats a year.
