Anecdotal evidence that tourism in Ballina and the north Mayo area has been buoyant so far this year is supported by new figures just released by Ballina Chamber of Commerce.
Lord of the Dance star helps Manchester troupe stage reunion for Mayo Gathering
The Manchester based multi award-winning Irish dancer; James Keegan who is one of the principal dancers of the world-famous Lord of the Dance show is just one of the stars who has confirmed his appearance at a special Young, Gifted & Green (YGG) reunion concert for the Manchester-Mayo Gathering. The special event will take place on Friday, August 2 at the prestigious Ballina Arts Theatre in County Mayo, Ireland. It will feature performances from former members of YGG and the Keegan Academy of Irish Dance, along with a host of special guests from Manchester and performers from Mayo which include the Atlantic Rhythm Production company and Carmel Gunning. The group is still looking for other performers and companies from Mayo who would like to get involved with the event.

Manchester joins forces with north Mayo for Gathering project
Manchester's newly formed Manchester-Mayo Tourism and Business group have joined forces with tourism groups in and around Ballina to stage a special festival for the 2013 Gathering project called the 'Mayo-North Gathering'. The proposed festival was launched in Attymass at the Father Peyton Centre yesterday (Thursday). It will be part of the Manchester-Mayo Gathering which will have festival hubs in Ballina and Attymass, but it is hoped that other parishes and surrounding towns will get involved in the initiative which hopes to boost tourism all over the north Mayo area.

County Council convicted for sewage leak into river
Mayo County Council were convicted and fined at Castlebar District Court this week after summonses were issued by another government body against them. Under the Fisheries Act, the North Western Regional Fisheries Board brought proceedings against the council after deleterious waste matter was permitted to fall into the Castlebar River in January of this year. Mayo County Council pleaded guilty to the summons for the offence on January 24 of this year.
