Lough Ree RNLI is one the newest stations the charity has on the island of Ireland and crew members proudly marked two centuries of lifesaving at special events in Dublin and London on Monday of this week.

Following another busy year on the water during which Lough Ree RNLI responded to 38 calls for assistance, the charity will celebrate its 200th birthday on March 4 2024 with many events planned throughout the year.

Just like the charity’s lifeboats, the RNLI’s fundraising team need a dedicated volunteer crew, volunteers being at the heart of the RNLI and comprising 95% of its people.

The year just ended was a significant one for Lough Ree RNLI both on and off the water, 2022 witnessing the opening of the charity’s ‘state of the art’ lifeboat station, while on the water the volunteer crew responded to 47 call outs during the year.

As the festive season draws near, Lough Ree RNLI throws open the doors of the lifeboat station at Coosan Point for a special Christmas sale this Saturday afternoon, November 26.

Local open water swimmers, Serena Friel and Karen Reynolds, recently presented Lough Ree RNLI with a cheque for €11,300 following a fund raising swim on the lake last month.

Lough Ree RNLI volunteers recently had the opportunity to examine progress on the building of its new boathouse now nearing completion at Coosan Point.

Lough Ree RNLI volunteer crew responded to a call on Monday afternoon to assist a lake cruiser with six people on board which had run aground west of Beam Island close to the County Roscommon shoreline.
