Young people in distress in Galway, Alzheimer’s patients, and homeless people will benefit this Christmas from funds to be raised at a series of concerts this month.

Those who love to sing and have a spare hour on a Sunday afternoon are invited to take part in an event to raise funds for local charities.

There was something altogether appropriate about Maitias O’Gormaile of Tuam reaching the end of his life’s journey on St Patrick’s Day. For his sense of Irish identity was deeply rooted and expressed itself in every aspect of his life, from the language he so loved, to the history and folklore of the country, its music and song and dance, and, of course, its sporting traditions, especially hurling, which he championed in his part of Galway, an area better known for Gaelic football.

Heart charity Croi has today launched its 2009 Christmas card pack selection. Synonymous with Christmas in Galway the Croi Christmas card selection is once again unique and exciting. This year’s pack includes a selection of stunning photos of Galway and west of Ireland Christmas scenes. The selection also includes images of Croagh Patrick and other snowscapes.
