THE FOURTH NUI Galway Theatre Week, a celebration of theatre, playwriting, and student creativity, returns from Monday February 18 to Friday 22.

GALWAY ACADEMIC and musician Seán Crosson has published a new book entitled The Given Note - a major study on the relationship between poetry and Irish trad and song.

It’s that time again and for the fifth consecutive year, Ballyragget Vintage Road Run takes to the highways and byways of north-east Kilkenny clocking up the miles in aid of local charities. To date, the event has raised over €70,000 and every euro collected goes directly to the chosen beneficiaries. Benefiting this year are the Carlow –Kilkenny Home Care Team, O’Gorman Home, Ballyragget, Kilkenny Alzheimers Society, the Susie Long Hospice Foundation and the Ballyragget Day Care Centre.

THE GIVEN Note: Traditional Music and Irish Poetry (Cambridge Scholars Publishing) by Seán Crosson is a substantial book begun as part of Crosson’s research for his doctoral dissertation at the Centre for Irish Studies in NUI, Galway.

BELFAST FLUTE player Desi Wilkinson has been one of Irish trad’s leading exponents for more than three decades. Wilkinson was raised in the shadow of The Troubles in the 1970s and was drawn to music as a means of release from the horrors of war.
