Belmullet Irish Wheelchair Association centre on target
A new state-of-the-art resource and outreach centre for the Irish Wheelchair Association (IWA), located in Logmore, Belmullet, is on target and is expected to be completed within seven months. Details of the development, catering for 124 people with limited mobility, were announced this week at the site of the new centre by Dara Calleary, Minister for Labour Affairs and Public Service Transformation.

A funding boost of €300,000 has been awarded towards the development of a Resource and Outreach Centre in Belmullet by the Irish Wheelchair Association. The good news was announced by Minister for Community, Equality and Gaeltacht Affairs Pat Carey this week.
Fifty years of soccer in Mervue
In the mid fifties, the corporation began to build the houses that make up what we now know as Old Mervue. Many young families moved to the area, and for the children, the open green areas in from Plunkett Avenue, and between Clarke and McDonagh avenues, became their playgrounds. They played all kinds of games here… Gaelic football, athletics, and especially soccer. It was on these green spaces that many well-known footballers first developed and honed their skills.
