Mervue United will host an Open Day for all existing and new players for the forthcoming 2013-14 season on Sunday at Fahy's Field, Mervue.

•Renmore AFC Soccer Club is running a Race Night in the Huntsman Inn College Road on Saturday March 9 to raise funds for the running of the soccer club. All are invited to attend, including anyone not directly involved in the club who would like to participate. The night will consist of a full race card of 10 races shown on large screen TVs with full tote facilities available. There will be an 'auction race' where punters can buy a horse with a chance for a major prize. There will also be lots of spot prizes. •Knocknacarra FC pre-season training commenced this week for all adult (junior) teams on Tuesday and also today (Thursday) in Cappagh Park at 7pm. The club hopes to enter three adult teams in the Galway & District League for the forthcoming season. Registration for all underage teams takes place at the clubhouse in Cappagh park tomorrow (Friday) from 7pm to 9pm and Saturday from 1pm to 3pm . Gaelic notes

•The first annual general meeting of the Galway Hurling Supporters Club will be held next Thursday (February 25) at the Lough Rea Hotel, Loughrea, Co Galway at 8pm. The club, which was set up last year, already boasts more than 600 members, and chairman Eamon Bradshaw is hoping this will increase to more than 2,000 this year. Bradshaw is calling on everyone interested in hurling to attend the AGM where officers will outline its activities during 2009, financial support for the Galway hurling reams, members aspirations for 2010, planned events during 2010, and benefits for members. The club has its own website, www.ghsc.ie, which has attracted hits from all over the world.
