DON JOSÉ Sáenz de Santa María, the Archbishop of Cadiz, was preparing sermons for an Easter service and asked Joseph Haydn, the most celebrated composer of his day, to write music to accompany the words he was writing.

THE SEVEN Last Words of Christ, Haydn’s celebrated work, exploring Christ’s anguish on the cross, and more broadly, on suffering and the human condition, will be performed in Galway this month.

Roscommon Arts Centre and Music Network are delighted to announce a concert by The Callino Quartet on Wednesday April 8, at 8pm in Castlecoote House, Roscommon. The quartet will perform Joseph Haydn’s The Seven Last Words of the Saviour on the Cross.
