Thankfully the early morning sun brought a welcome thaw so that by the starting time of the first race at noon, conditions had greatly improved. Most of the Kilkenny athletes who braved the frost and fog for the long drive to Ballyhaise were rewarded with excellent results bringing home eight All-Ireland medals.
