In 2016 The Stinging Fly magazine described Kevin Higgins as ‘likely Ireland’s most read Irish poet’. Kevin who passed away this week was a passionate and popular poet, a satirist, a fine wordsmith, a romantic with real powers of evocation and a gentle presence too.

Starting in September, Galway Arts Centre is offering aspiring poets a choice of three online poetry workshops, all facilitated by poet Kevin Higgins, whose best-selling first collection, The Boy With No Face, published by Salmon Poetry, was short-listed for the 2006 Strong Award for Best First Collection by an Irish poet.

THE STINGING Fly magazine was born in 1998 with the specific aim in mind of providing a platform in Ireland for new short stories, some of which are nowe collected in Stinging Fly Stories, edited by Sarah Gilmartin and Declan Meade, and published by Stinging Fly Press.
