An intriguing set of knockout fixtures lies in store for hurling supporters across the county as the Galway senior and intermediate championships enter the quarter-final stage, with a repeat of last year’s senior final between St. Thomas’ and Turloughmore sure to draw a massive crowd to Kenny Park on Sunday.

Galway county champions Gort tried hard, but ultimately fell short in the All-Ireland semi-final against an experienced Ballyhale Shamrocks outfit last weekend in O’Connor Park in Tullamore.

The Gort hurlers and their loyal band of supporters will head to Thurles on Saturday knowing the vast majority of people in the county and country expect them to meet their Waterloo against Kilkenny champions Ballyhale Shamrocks.

Kilkenny put on a good display when defeating Waterford fairly comprehensively by 0-26 to 3-9 in an entertaining challenge game in Tallow on Sunday night in front of an attendance of over 2,000 supporters. Henry Shefflin was a welcome return to the team.
